Tree of Joy Gives!
Members of the community have been hard at work these past couple of months pulling together Washington Gorge Action Programs’ Tree of Joy program this year, and it was all worth it in the end. With 200 children accounted for, local families in need will be able to give gifts to their little ones this Christmas, thanks to donations from local churches, community organizations, and businesses.

We Did It!
Executive Director, Leslie Naramore, talks with Mid-Columbia Today host Mark Bailey during a radio interview on Thursday December 17 (starting at 35:40 on the recording) to share the news that WAGAP has met its goal to raise $50,000 to rebuild the COVID-19 Relief Fund to hep support Klickitat and Skamania residents who have lost their job or had a reduction in work hours due to the economic impacts of the pandemic.
Warming Shelter
The Stevenson Warming Shelter is preparing to open soon to provide a safe and warm overnight space for homeless persons during the cold winter season. The facility will initially operate 5 days a week from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. in a location adjacent to the Hegewald Center at 710 SW Rock Creek Drive. The hope is to open 12/21/20 and volunteers are needed!

Matching Funds Announced
A local donor has stepped forward to make $15,000 in matching funds available for Washington Gorge Action Programs (WAGAP) effort to raise $50,000 to rebuild the COVID-19 Relief Fund by December 31.

Feasibility Study
The Klickitat County Childcare Committee, is seeking a qualified independent consultant for the purpose of conducting a feasibility study for our organization. Request for proposals of a feasibility study regarding the establishment of childcare providers in the Goldendale, Washington area are due by December 8, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.

Gorge MakerSpace is in downtown White Salmon at 32 NE Pioneer Place. The nonprofit multimedia workshop was founded in 2014 to serve as an accessible resource to anyone in the community with the notion to create. “We provide the coaching and tools to bring STEM ideas to life,” their website explains, inviting “makers of all ages to design, invent, and tinker.”

Phone Lines Open 11/16
Residents of Skamania and Klickitat Counties are able to request an appointment to apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) beginning November 16 at 8:00 a.m through Washington Gorge Action Programs (WAGAP) Energy Assistance phone lines.
Licensing Effort Begins
Work is underway in the Goldendale area to plan for a future childcare facility as well as to develop a path for individuals to become certified to provide in-home childcare.

The Childcare Committee of Klickitat County is looking for additional partners to join in the effort to create an actionable strategy for improving childcare access and affordability in the Goldendale area during its Initial Partnership Meeting on Monday November 16 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Help the Tree of Joy!
The holidays will be brighter as the 2020 Tree of Joy program kicks off to provide gifts to children of families in need in Klickitat and Skamania Counties. The project links children’s wish lists with donors from business and community organizations and is coordinated by Washington Gorge Action Programs (WAGAP) Food Bank.
